Counselling workshop on Good Touch; Bad Touch for students - 2017

On September 9th 2017 workshop was conducted on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” by Salma Prabhu, Clinical Psychologist, Columnist, Author and Environmentalist from Ace Academy in Podar International School, Powai for grade 1 students.

The workshop was a learning experience from renowned name in her forte. It started with storytelling session as students get connected well to stories. It ended with writing a name on the paper of a person to whom they can approach when they feel unsafe; to know the motive of the story telling has been imbibed in their minds. The students were made aware of their body parts which cannot be touched by strangers.

Students didn’t only write names but few of them also drew figures of people whom they trust and wrote messages on what to do when in trouble. It was fun and joyful session overall.

Podar Jumbo Kids celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi as “Let’s celebrate with an Eco Friendly Theme”

At Podar Jumbo Kids we do not promote a religion or religious festivals; in fact we promote the spirit of that festival’s celebration. So when we talk about a festival we do not talk about religion or why they are celebrated. We focus on the spirit of celebration of that festival. Here are details about our celebration today:
“Let’s celebrate with an Eco Friendly Theme"

We started the day through a presentation about how it is very important for us to keep Mother Nature clean, tidy and green. The children then participated in an experiment that made them understand the materials that are good or bad for the environment. It made them realize the importance of using eco friendly products.

The learning was further reinforced. The children of Jr. KG and Sr.KG watched videos on Reduce,Reuse and Recycle.

As we celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with an Eco Friendly theme. Hence all the Ganpati and art work you see in the video are made with the viewpoint of providing food for sea life once immersed in water and will be completely harmless for environment.

Workshop for class IX by representatives from University of St. Andrews, Scotland - 2017

On Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017, Principal, Neeta Bali, invited a guest speaker, Dr. Charles Warren, from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland to address students of class IX. This is the first in the series of guest speakers that are planned for senior students of grade VIII and IX. Dr. Warren acquainted the students with the advantages of studying in the University of St. Andrews followed by sharing of research in the field of sustainable development and the opportunity open to students, who may be interested in the field. This was followed by a short Q & A session where he addressed the queries of the students.

Independence Day Celebration - Unveiling the Club 'I Can Make A Difference' - 2017

Freedom in the Mind,
Faith in the words …
Pride in our souls …
Let’s salute the nation on this auspicious day.

It was a red letter day in the history of India when the country got her freedom on August 15, 1947. It took hundreds of years for us to break shackles of slavery. People of the country celebrate this festival every year with great pomp and show. Independence day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Podar International School, CBSE,Powai. The ceremony started at 8 AM in the school with a large crowd of staff, students and parents. The Principal, Mrs Neeta Bali, the Chief Guest for the day was escorted by the school band.
To Commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the Principal unfurled the tricolor flag and all in unison sang the National Anthem and expressed the joy of our freedom.
Ishaan Kothari and Divya Jha of grade 9 shared their views on the significance of the day. The teachers enhanced the spirit of patriotism by singing a couple of patriotic songs that awakened everyone’s feelings towards our Mother Land through their mellifluous voices. Mrs Shraddha was felicitated for her loyalty and dedication towards the organisation on successfully completing 5 years of service in PIS.
The Principal, Neeta Bali addressed the gathering about the supreme sacrifice the great martyrs gave for the sake of freedom. She also said introduced to the gathering the initiatives taken by the students and bring in a change among the society through a host of activities like the “I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE” club and educating the didis by the students of grade 9.
Indeed, it was a day of joy, a day to love and respect our country and make it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.The Independence Day has a great importance in every citizen’s life. This day reminds us every year that freedom is sacred and citizens must do everything to ensure that it shall not be endangered.

Investiture Ceremony 2017-18

Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

This is the path that the Student Council members are believed to strive and opt for themselves at Podar International School, Powai. The Investiture Ceremony of the school for the session 2017-18 was held on 22nd July, to solemnize the School Student Council. The auspicious ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp along with a musical rendition that sanctified the whole ambience.

The school Principal, Ms. Neeta Bali, conferred badges on the young stalwarts and congratulated the Council members. In her motivational speech, she encouraged them to serve selflessly and emphasized the myriad meaning that their badges carried. She exhorted them to carry out their duties with integrity, faith and excellence, as with position comes responsibility….responsibility towards their school and peers. It was a defining and a proud moment for all the Council Members, as they were brimming with confidence to shoulder the newly assigned duties Oath was taken by the Council members under the leadership of School Head Girl-Divya Jha and Head Boy- Ishaan Kothari, with the promise that they would bestow their duties to the best of their abilities. It was nothing less than a treat for the senses to see our young soldiers taking oath. School Head Girl and Head Boy, shared their vision, promising to uphold the values of the school and keep the school’s flag flying high. The hall constantly resonated with an energetic and exuberant applaud of the proud parents. The momentous ceremony ended with the national anthem.

International Nelson Mandela Day 2017 – A Tribute

To pay our humble tribute to the great son of humanity, the late President of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Nelson Mandela, we the staff and students of Podar International School Powai celebrated the International Nelson Mandela Day on 18-Jul-2017.

The day started with a special assembly session wherein students shared the common threads of connect between the thoughts of the two great leaders: Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. All the students took the pledge of helping others who are in need. Subsequent to the assembly, videos based on Mr. Mandela’s life history were shown to all the classes.

The students of Class VI with the help of the art teachers put up a phenomenal display of board competition based on the life and teachings of Mr. Mandela. The same was judged basis the creativity, presentation, and content therein. Overall, it was a perfect setting for learning and fun wherein the event turned out to be a great success.

Intra- School English Debate For Juniors - 2017

The learners of standard V participated actively, in a debate competition on 11th of July 2017 on the topic “Everyone should be a vegetarian”. The atmosphere was filled with stormy, enthusiastic arguments resulting in a fruitful outcome. The principal, Ms Neeta Bali also invited the children sitting in the audience to share their views on the topic thus motivating them to voice out their opinions and overpower their fears by participating in such activities. The winners and the participants were given certificates.

Doha Competition - 2017

Doha Competition held on 7th July 2017 at Podar International School, Powai (CBSE)

A competition on Kabir’s Dohas was held on 7th July 2017 for the students of class IV, VI and VII. Four students from each grade were shortlisted on the basis of their performances. The semi final was conducted by the Hindi Teachers and a few more aspects of Doha reading were introduced like presentation, voice modulation etc. Judges for the competition included senior faculty of the school. Students securing first and second position from every participating class were selected and awarded certificates by the Principal, Mrs. Neeta Bali

Debate Competition - 2017

Podar International School, Powai (CBSE) organised a debate competition for the students of Class IX on 24th June, 2017. The topic of the debate was - ‘All citizens who do not vote should pay a fine ’. Two students of Grade IX Adhiraj and Anushka anchored the competition. Ms. Tamali Lahiri, Vice Principal, trained the students to participate for the same.

The contestants were buzzing with enthusiasm as they got ready for the debate. They were well prepared as they spoke with conviction and confidence on the topic and came up with their perspective. Their arguments, be it 'For' or 'Against' the statement, were supported well by facts and statistics which was a result of detailed research work on their part.

The judges for the day were Ms. Neeta Bali (Principal) and Ms. Jyoti Sharma (Vice Principal). They adjudged Zeeshan Afzal of IX D, who spoke 'For', and Kartheek Kotamarthi of IX C, who spoke 'Against' the motion as Best Speakers. Incidentally, both represent the AQUA house. Speaking on the occasion Principal, Ms Neeta Bali praised the students for their efforts and being socially aware. She acquainted the students on the nuances of debating and advised them to improve their thinking and communication skills to become confident speakers.

The students of class IX, who were the audience for the debate, thoroughly enjoyed the event.

‘Meet the Principal’ Session for PTA members - 2017

Meet the Principal Session was organised on two consecutive Saturdays 17th June and 24th June 2017 for the PTA members of the academic year 2016-17, basically to get acquainted with the new Principal. This session was very interactive as the members were called in small groups for effective communication. The Principal, Mrs. Neeta Bali expressed her aspirations for the school and requested the parents for a collaborative approach which can further help the school grow. In the Q & A session the parents openly brought to the table their concerns to which possible solutions were given. The session was an ideal opportunity for the parents to interact with the new ‘Head of School’ and have their concerns listened to patiently and they went back hopeful of the concerns being addressed in a constructive manner.
